In a bid to reclaim its proclaimed mandate, the APC announced on Saturday that it had finalized preparations to contest the results of the Kano State gubernatorial election that took place on March 18, 2023, at the State Election Tribunal.
Ahmed Aruwa, the Spokesperson for Kano APC, announced on Saturday that the party is taking legal action against NNPP, its gubernatorial candidate, and INEC.
In the spirit of sportsmanship and to the dismay of the party, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna expressed his congratulations to Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) upon being presented with his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday.
However, Aruwa indicated on Saturday that the APC had told its legal team to contest the outcome of the election that declared the NNPP’s gubernatorial candidate the victor, as stated by INEC.
The keenly contested election was between the candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Nasiru Gawuna; Abba Kabir-Yusuf of the New Nigeria’s Peoples Party (NNPP)
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) took the lead in the Kano State governorship election, surpassing the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Nasir Gawuna by a margin of 3,580 votes.
NNPP’s Abba Kabir Yusuf secured 388,678 votes while Gawuna trailed with 385,098 votes after the 23rd local government area was counted.
