The All Progressives Congress’ chances of maintaining a majority seat in the Nigerian Senate received massive boosts after Saturday’s supplementary elections.
The ruling party in Nigeria gained three more seats in the Senate, moving its number of seats at the 10th Senate from 57 to 60.
The main opposition, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, secured three senatorial seats, making a total number of 32 seats from the earlier 29 seats in the 10th Senate.
While the PDP won in Sokoto South, Kebbi North, and Zamfara Central, the APC won in Sokoto Central, Yobe South, and Plateau Central.
In Sokoto Central, the APC candidate, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, received 141,468 votes to defeat Mannir Daniya, the state’s deputy governor, who received 118,445 votes.
Also,Tolulope Akande-Sadipe, the lawmaker representing Oluyole Federal Constituency in Oyo State, was declared the winner of the Saturday supplementary election.
Akande-Sadipe, the current Chairman of the House Committee on Diaspora Affairs, received 14,891 votes to defeat her nearest rival, Mogbonjubola Mojeed of the PDP, who received 13,073 votes.
After the supplementary elections, Labour Party got eight seats, New Nigeria People’s Party got two seats, Social Democratic Party, had two seats, the All Progressive Grand Alliance and Young People’s Party got one seat each
Integrity News reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission on Saturday conducted supplementary elections for the governorship seats in Kebbi and Adamawa states and five senatorial seats in Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states.
The electoral umpire also carried out supplementary polls for 30 federal constituencies seats for the House of Representatives across 15 states.
The states where elections were held are Sokoto, Kebbi, Adamawa, Edo, Anambra, Enugu, Plateau, Yobe, Zamfara, Bayelsa, Jigawa, Imo, Kano, Kogi, Oyo, Rivers, Taraba and Zamfara.
