NDLEA engages Lagos drug barons in 30-minute gun duel; seizes nearly 9,000 kg of Canadian Loud

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has confiscated two hundred and two bags of Canadian Loud, weighing 8,852 kilogrammes in Lagos.

This was disclosed in a statement by NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, on Sunday May 7, 2023.

According to the statement, the seizure came after a ’30-minute’ gun duel with the drug barons.

Babafemi unveiled that the gunmen were escorting two truckloads of imported synthetic strain of cannabis along Eleko beach road in Lekki area of Lagos.

“NDLEA operatives laid ambush for the traffickers along the Eleko beach road based on credible intelligence,” Babafemi said.

“At about 4:51 a.m. on Thursday May 4, two long trucks conveying the illicit consignments were flagged down,” he explained in the statement.

“Rather than stopping, the trucks escorted by armed men sped off, as a result of which there was an exchange of gunfire that lasted for about 30 minutes.

He added, “After they were overpowered by the NDLEA operatives, the truck drivers and their armed escorts escaped into the bush abandoning the trucks and the drug consignment.

“While one of the trucks painted red has 149 jumbo bags weighing 6,548kg, the second one with blue colour has 53 big bags with a weight of 2,304kg.

“This brings the total number of bags to 202 and gross weight of both to 8,852 kilograms.”

Mr Babafemi said that operatives were already on the trail of the drug lord who shipped the illicit consignment into the country.
