President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently holding a closed door meeting with former governor of Delta State, James Ibori, and Nyesom Wike at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The former governor of Delta between 1999 and 2007 arrived at Aso Rock Presidential Villa, around 4:25pm.
The purpose of the visit to the Presidential Villa by the politicians was not disclosed.
Also with the duo is the governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde.
Makinde and Wike are significant members of the G-5, a group formed during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) crisis in the run-up to the 2023 elections.
Recall that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited Rivers at the instance of Wike. Tinubu commended the former governor for his giant strides in the state, saying: “Your Excellency, Governor Nyesom Wike, you are very dependable. Nyesom, I say thank-you for your contribution to my victory. I couldn’t have done it without some structural support.”
“In his Excellency, I see a man of principle. He (Wike) took a principled stand that the Presidency must return to the South and he has the courage to stand by his conviction not minding whose ox is gored.
“He is indeed a man of great integrity; he did not choose to serve his own interest, not about him. Rather, the interest of the nation. You promoted unity, you promoted fairness, you championed justice. Thank you. There were so much gossips and speculations but you stood your ground.”
Wike has been having a rough time with the PDP due to his decision and that of the G5 governors to oppose the party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, during the February 25 poll.
Earlier in the week, a federal high court sitting in Abuja ruled that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has the right to suspend or expel Nyesom Wike, former governor of Rivers state.
In his judgment on Wednesday, Justice James Omotosho held that though the party had the right to suspend or expel its members, this must be done in compliance with its constitutional provisions.
