Senator George Akume has officially commenced duties as the new Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) after he was sworn-in by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Senator Akume took his Oath of Allegiance and Oath of Office around 11:06 am inside the Council Chambers of the Villa in an event witnessed by dignitaries and allies of the SGF.
Among those who were present at the ceremony were Vice President Kashim Shettima; Senate President Ahmed Lawan; Kwara Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr FolasadeYemi-Esan and wife of the new SGF, Mrs Regina Akume.
Speaking to correspondents after the short ceremony, the new joyful SGF pledged to deliver the best of administrative services to take the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration to its heights.
Akume succeeds Boss Mustapha, who was appointed by the president during a meeting with the Progressive Governors’ Forum in the Villa last week.
The SGF is a senior government official who oversees the executive branches of government.
He is in charge of coordinating and supervising the actions of numerous government ministries, departments, and organizations.
He also gives policy advice and direction to the President and the Cabinet, as well as monitoring the implementation of government programs.
The SGF also organizes and coordinates meetings of the Federal Executive Council, the government’s top decision-making body. He acts as a liaison between the federal and state governments.
