The Department of State Services has announced the eventual arrest of the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele.
The DSS’ announcement came barely some hours after it denied arresting the embattled former CBN governor.
This was contained in a statement released on its official Twitter page and signed by Peter Afunanya PhD fsi, Public Relations Officer, Department of State Services, National Headquarters, Abuja.
The security agency confirmed that Emefiele is now in its custody for some investigative reasons without adding additional information why he’s detained.
Nigeria’s secret police however called on the public, particularly the Media, to apply utmost caution in the reportage and narratives concerning the arrest of the erstwhile CBN governor.
“The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby confirms that Mr Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is now in its custody for some investigative reasons. The statement said.
The public, particularly the Media, is enjoined to apply utmost caution in the reportage and narratives concerning this. It concluded.

i-News Nigeria reported that Mr. Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of the investigation and the reforms after he was suspended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Emefiele is yet to publicly comment on his suspension and his eventual detention by the officers of the Department of State Services.
Emefiele, a seasoned banker, was first appointed by former President Goodluck Jonathan on February 20, 2014 hours after the sack of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.
He officially took over the leadership of Nigeria’s apex bank on June 2, 2014.
