Breaking News: Tinubu suspends EFCC chairman

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has suspended Mr. AbdulRasheed Bawa, as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to NTA news on Wednesday, the suspension is a result of grave allegations of misconduct that arose during Mr. Bawa’s tenure and is intended to enable a thorough investigation into the matter.

In light of this development, Mr. Bawa has been directed to promptly transfer his duties to the Director of Operations at the Commission.

The Director will assume the responsibility of overseeing the Office of the Chairman until the investigation is finalized.

According to a statement by the Director of Information at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Willie Bassey, the action follows “weighty” allegations of abuse of office levelled against him.

“Mr Bawa has been directed to immediately handover the affairs of his office to the Director, Operations in the Commission, who will oversee the affairs of the Office of the Chairman of the Commission pending the conclusion of the investigation,” the statement said.

The suspension of Bawa as the EFCC boss came barely some days after the CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele was temporarily axed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
