Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has expressed his determination to establish a partnership between the military and Borno State.
Governor Zulum disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.
According to the statement, the partnership is aimed at providing farmers in the region with increased and secure access to their farmlands during the upcoming rainy season.
Addressing a gathering of thousands of farmers in the town of Keleri, situated on the outskirts of Maiduguri along the Maiduguri-Mafa-Dikwa-Gamboru Highway, Zulum highlighted the need for swift action.
He observed that “farmers had enjoyed access to their farmlands in 2020, 2021, and 2022, and emphasized the importance of maintaining this access in 2023, especially given the marked improvement in security conditions.”
To achieve this goal, Zulum pledged to engage with military authorities to devise effective strategies that would enable farmers to cultivate their lands safely.
He also vowed to take decisive action against troublemakers lurking within the metropolis and its environs.
Recognizing the paramount significance of farming and the severe implications of food insecurity, the governor affirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to bolstering security around farmlands.
“This would be accomplished by deploying more agro rangers who would safeguard farmers from criminals targeting vulnerable areas,” Zulum said.
Zulum urged the populace to remain vigilant, stay informed about their surroundings, and promptly report any suspicious activities to the security forces.
The governor called upon citizens to cooperate fully with the military and other security agencies in their efforts to maintain peace and security throughout the region.
