House of Reps commences screening of service chiefs

 The House of Representatives has commenced the screening of the Service Chiefs nominated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The ad hoc committee, chaired by Babajimi Benson, a lawmaker from Lagos State, was set up by the Speaker of the House of Representatives to review the profiles of the nominees in accordance with the Armed Forces Act.

The Service Chiefs are Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff, Taoreed Lagbaja as Chief of Army Staff, Emmanuel Ogalla as Chief of Naval Staff, and Hassan Abubakar as Chief of Air Staff.

In his remarks, the Chief of Defence Staff said the “AFN under my leadership will be people-centric by prioritizing and safeguarding our people and their legitimate way of life as prescribed by the Nigerian Constitution.”

He added, “I am committed to ensuring a conducive and secure environment for the protection of lives and properties for socio-economic activities to thrive.” Daily Post reports.

The Chief of Army Staff, who also assured lawmakers of his dedication to the well-being of those under his command.

Following his remarks, Mr Benson stated that the committee will hold a “serious conversation” with the nominees.

In his inaugural address, recall that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu promised Nigerians that security would be top priority for his administration.

He said “Security shall be the top priority of our administration because neither prosperity nor justice can prevail amidst insecurity and violence.

 

“To effectively tackle this menace, we shall reform both our security DOCTRINE and its ARCHITECTURE.”
