Sheriff Oborevwori, the Governor of Delta State, has approved employment of primary school teachers, clerical officers, and watchmen in the twenty-two local government council areas of the state.
Mr Victor Ebonka, State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, confirmed the approval while speaking to reporters at the conclusion of the State Joint Account Allocation Committee Meeting in Asaba.
Mr Ebonka said the approval was given at the JAAC meeting while recruitment would be based on individual local government needs assessment.
He noted that the approval for immediate employment for teachers became needful due to inadequate teaching and non teaching staff in primary schools in the state following retirement of teachers for years without replacement.
The Delta State ALGON Chairman debunked insinuations of heavy windfall for the councils, saying the allocation they got for the month of July was not unusual.
On the forty billion naira facility for pension payments, Mr Ebonka said they had met all the conditions necessary for the loan, adding that they were optimistic of paying the pensioners from next month.
