The Nigeria Labour Congress says it will embark on a total and comprehensive strike on Monday 14th of this month if the Federal Government fail to withdraw the Contempt of Court Summons served on the leadership of NLC and TUC following the nationwide protest against the anti-people policies of government on 2nd August.
This is contained in a communique signed by NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero and the General Secretary, Comrade Emmanuel Ugbuaja and released to newsmen in Abuja at the end of the Congress National Executive Council Meeting.
According to the communique, the Federal Ministry of Justice through the National Industrial Court has continue to allow itself to be used as a tool to muzzle and silence the voices of Nigerian workers and stressed that such posture is a violation of workers’ rights and undemocratic and will not be allowed.
It says the Congress is committed to maintaining vigilance needed to hold government accountable on the assurances given by president Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of the National Assembly to immediately address the demands of Nigerian workers.
The communique demands for immediate withdrawal of what it describes as litigious terrorism on workers by the Federal Ministry of Justice before the end of work on Friday 11th of this month.
The communique commended the national leadership and all State officers of NLC, the civil society organisations and all affiliate unions for effective coordination of the Wednesday protest and urged them to remain alert as the congress is resolute in pushing the struggle against anti-people policies of government.
