There is a growing chorus for President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in Zamfara State due to the escalating insecurity.
A coalition of activists and human rights defenders from all 36 states of Nigeria and the FCT made this plea during a press conference in Abuja on Friday.
The coalition advised the current governor, Lawal Dauda Dare, to concentrate on advancing the state instead of targeting his predecessor, Bello Matawalle.
Dr. Suleiman Shua’bu Shikanfi, the national president of the coalition, emphasized that the security situation in the state has reached catastrophic levels.
Expressing concern, he noted the daily loss of lives and properties, highlighting the pervasive fear preventing people from returning home due to insecurity.
He criticized the governor for not being present in the state to assess the situation and accused him of neglecting the citizens who elected him.
The coalition urged President Tinubu to intervene and declare a state of emergency to address the critical security challenges in Zamfara.
