Denial Of Manipulation: INEC Counters Allegations Regarding IReV Accreditation Data

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has refuted claims of manipulating accredited voter figures in the Kogi governorship election results on the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal, as reported in certain media outlets.

Mohammed Haruna, the National Commissioner and Member of the Information and Voter Education Committee, issued a statement on Tuesday dismissing the reports as baseless. He urged the public to disregard the misleading information.

Haruna clarified, “The Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) attention has been drawn to some media reports alleging that the Commission was tampering with the accredited figures of voters in the Kogi Governorship Election results uploaded on the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal. However, these reports are unfounded.”

He emphasized that the most accurate and up-to-date Voters’ Accreditation Data is available in the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), which is employed for the authentication and accreditation of registered voters on election day, automatically retaining the accreditation data of all voters.

The Commission clarified that BVAS is designed to operate primarily offline without Internet connectivity, ensuring a swift and seamless authentication and accreditation experience for voters.

Haruna highlighted that, when active, BVAS automatically exports accreditation data to the Accreditation Backend System (ABS), contingent on its Internet connection strength.
