A certified reproduction of the Appeal Court decision regarding the Kano State Governorship election has validated Abba Yusuf’s triumph as the duly elected Governor.
The written judgement revealed that the Court of Appeal nullified the Kano election petition tribunal’s ruling, deeming it lacking in merit.
According to the details outlined in page 67 of the released certified copy of the Appeal Court judgement on Tuesday, signed by registrar Mr. Jameel Ibrahim Umar, the appellate court upheld Abba Kabiru Yusuf’s victory from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
The three-member panel of the Appeal Court, on Friday, November 17, 2023, dismissed Governor Yusuf’s appeal based on his membership status, subsequently confirming Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the March 25, 2023, gubernatorial election in Kano.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday evening, Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Dederi, highlighted that page 67 of the certified judgement explicitly indicated the tribunal’s decision to oust Governor Yusuf had been overturned.
Barrister Dederi asserted that, contrary to the judges’ oral communication on November 17th, the written evidence affirmed Yusuf as the lawful Governor of Kano State.
