IPOB Leader’s Lawyer Condemns Nigerian Government For ‘Double National Offense’ In Kanu’s Case

Aloy Ejimakor, the Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has accused the Nigerian Government of committing a “double offense” in relation to the arrest of the agitator.

Ejimakor argued that detaining Kanu after subjecting him to extraordinary rendition from Kenya constitutes a dual violation, emphasizing that such an offense cannot be justified.

In a post on X, he drew attention to the historical consequences, noting how Nigerians lost their visa-free travel to the United Kingdom due to the mishandled rendition of Umaru Dikko in 1984.

Ejimakor stated: “In 1984, Nigerians lost their visa-free travel to the UK because of the botched rendition of Umaru Dikko & it was the rendition of MAZI NNAMDI KANU that got Benin Republic to protect IGBOHO. Detaining MNK after renditioning him is a double national offense that should not stand.”

Nnamdi Kanu has been held in custody by the Department of State Services (DSS) since his arrest and rendition from Kenya in 2021. Despite court judgments ordering his release, the DSS has not granted him freedom.
