Report has it that the closure of the Third-Mainland Bridge in Lagos has caused heavy Vehicular traffic on the Bridge.
Our correspondent who was on the Bridge this Wednesday Morning gives situation reports that many commuters were seeing stranded at the Oworonshoki Layby due to the scarcity of vehicles to board to their various destinations as one lane of the road (inbound Adeniji) is completely blocked while the Security personnel are stationed there.
Speaking to one of the commuters, Miss Chidera Chukwu gave account of her experience at the Bus Stop, saying she has been standing at the Bus stop since 6.30am and till around 9am still no bus to board to her destination.
According to her: “Though, the repair is a good idea by the Federal Government but government should try and ameliorate the situation to ensure Nigerians are not subjected to this type of suffering.
“In the developed world, they do road maintenance but the citizens’ movements won’t be affected.
“The information released by the Lagos State government on Thursday last week is not the same with what is currently playing out.
“They said they would be blocking from 12am-12pm to those coming from Island while 12pm-12am for those coming from Oworonshoki but, we are seeing everywhere being blocked”, Chidera said.
One of the car owners Mr Ganiyu Tokunbo said, he didn’t plan to meet the situation like this saying, he almost exhausted the fuel he bought at N630/Litre.
Recall that the Federal Ministry of Works has announced that urgent repairs will be carried out on the Iyana-Oworonsoki end of the Third Mainland Bridge. The closure of this section is scheduled to take place on January 9, 2024. The Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, Olukorede Keisha, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
