The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has instructed the Muslim community to observe the appearance of the new moon of Rajab 1445 AH starting from Friday.

Prof Sambo Janaidu, Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council Sokoto, conveyed this directive in a statement on Thursday.

The statement conveyed, “To alert the Muslim community, it is announced that Friday, Jan. 12, equivalent to the 29th day of Jumada-Assani 1445 AH, is designated for the search for the new moon of Rajab 1445 AH.

“Muslims are urged to commence the moon sighting on Friday and report any sightings to the nearest District or Village Head for communication to the Sultan,” the statement emphasized.

The Sultan, in his prayers, sought Allah’s assistance for all Muslims in carrying out their religious obligations.

It is noteworthy that Rajab, the seventh month in the Islamic calendar, is recognized as one of the four sacred months in Islam, during which engagements in battles are prohibited.
