Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, expressed gratitude to Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate, for visiting him and commiserating with the state after the recent explosion in Ibadan. In a video, Makinde commended Obi for prioritizing humanity over politics and appreciated his support during the challenging times.
Makinde stated, “I should use this opportunity on behalf of the good people of Oyo state, thank His Excellency, Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra state and also the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the last election. I thank you because politics didn’t seep into this. You came to commiserate with us over the explosion.”
The governor highlighted the ongoing investigation into the explosion, attributing it to illegal miners storing explosives in a residential area. He praised Obi for the visit and expressed disappointment that his own party’s presidential candidate had not reached out to him.
“I’m particularly grateful because the president called me, you have reached out to me, but my own party candidate, not even a call or text message,” Makinde remarked, emphasizing the importance of leaders making time for both politics and humanity.
Peter Obi, in response, extended condolences to the people of Oyo state and commended Governor Makinde for his swift response to the tragic incident. Obi stressed the need to prioritize governance over politics and advocated for reducing the cost of governance at the federal level. He emphasized the importance of focusing on critical areas such as education, health, and poverty alleviation.
The video captures the camaraderie between Makinde and Obi during the visit, showcasing a commendable display of solidarity and unity in the face of adversity.
