Anambra Government Bursts Baby Factory Disguised As Healthcare Facility, Rescues 6 Pregnant Teenagers

In a startling revelation, the Anambra Government has exposed a baby factory camouflaged as a healthcare facility named Mother and Child Hospital and Maternity. Located at No. 1, School Road, Tansian University, Umunya in Oyi Local Government Area of the state, the clandestine operation was unraveled by the State Ministry of Health Facility, Accreditation and Monitoring Unit (ASHEFAAMU).

Expressing his astonishment, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, described the discovery as shocking and unbelievable. The revelation occurred during a routine inspection by the state’s Health Facility, Accreditation and Monitoring Unit, prompting immediate action.

Dr. Obidike revealed that upon arrival at the facility, the nurses hastily locked up the premises and fled when questioned about the absence of registration with the state government. Security operatives, including OCHA-Brigade, the Civil Defence Corps, and the Police, were subsequently called in to assist in accessing the facility.

The inspection revealed a disturbing sight – six underage pregnant girls, aged between 14 and 21 years, allegedly held against their will. According to the girls, they were being harbored by a self-acclaimed doctor identified as Mr. Odili Ossai from Delta State, who is currently on the run. The girls disclosed that upon delivery, Ossai, the proprietor, would sell the babies while they returned home empty-handed.

Five individuals have been apprehended in connection with the illicit operation, and further investigations are underway by the police.

Dr. Obidike reiterated the commitment of Governor Charles Soludo’s administration to eradicate fake and quack hospitals across the state. He emphasized the importance of monitoring and accrediting healthcare facilities to ensure the provision of quality healthcare services in Anambra State.

Furthermore, the establishment of the State Illegal and Anti-Quackery Taskforce Team aligns with Governor Soludo’s directive to eliminate illegal health facilities and quackery. The Ministry of Health has also developed a database website to facilitate easy access to approved and registered health facilities in the state.

Dr. Obidike urged the public to report any observed illegal activities, malpractices, or concerns related to healthcare services to dedicated mobile hotlines provided by the state.

In conclusion, the Commissioner issued a stern warning to other fake and quack hospitals operating in the state, urging them to cease their activities immediately, as the law will eventually catch up with them.
