Ex-President Jonathan Requests National Support For His Mother’s Health

Former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, has appealed to the nation to join him in offering prayers for his mother, Eunice Jonathan, who is deeply affected by the tragic loss of her eldest child, Obebhatein. The plea was made during the funeral service for Jonathan’s elder sister, Obebhatein Jonathan, held at the Dame Patience Jonathan Square in Otuoke, Bayelsa.

Having lost eight of her children, with Jonathan being the sole surviving child, the former President expressed his gratitude to those who attended the funeral. He highlighted the challenges his mother is facing in mourning her first child, emphasizing the need for continued prayers and support.

Jonathan thanked the Bayelsa State First Lady and other women who offered comfort to his mother during the difficult time. He described his mother’s trauma and urged Nigerians to pray for her, believing that God will see them through.

The deceased’s second son, Dogood Qkpufu, encouraged women to emulate his mother’s determination. He shared how his mother, despite facing challenges, pursued education and became a successful teacher. Omonibele Azibanyeluan, the daughter of Obebhatein, praised her mother’s virtues, describing her as a good, peaceful, patient, and God-fearing woman.

Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, represented by his deputy, conveyed condolences on behalf of the state government to the Jonathan family, especially Mama Eunice Jonathan. He highlighted the late individual’s resilient and fearless nature, urging the younger generation to draw inspiration from her life journey. Governor Diri emphasized Obebhatein’s determination to pursue education, starting from primary school at the age of 23, and eventually earning a Bachelor of Education (B. Ed) degree despite being a mother of three. The governor acknowledged the valuable lessons to be learned from her life.
