Police Parade 83 Kidnap, Robbery Suspects, Rescue 20 Victims In Enugu

The Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, yesterday paraded 83 suspects arrested for alleged kidnapping, car snatching, gun running, one-chance robbery and armed robbery.

The suspects were arrested between January and yesterday, with 46 firearms, 35 stolen exotic cars, six tricycles and 15 motorcycles recovered from criminals. The police boss also said at least 20 victims of kidnapping were rescued within the same period.

Among the suspects were 11 arrested in connection with the murder of the traditional ruler of Adani Community in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of the state, Igwe Ezugwu Patrick, in the night hours of December 24, 2023.

Also, paraded were suspected kidnappers of one Hon. Vitalis Nwankwo and four others, who were released after the payment of ransom; and the attempted murderer of the Chairman, Neighbourhood Watch Group, Adani community.

Speaking at the command headquarters, where the suspects were paraded yesterday, CP Uzuegbu identified some of them as Henry Ikenna Okafor, 29; Charles Eze, 23; Amobi Okeke, 33; Chukwuma Agu 38; Emmanuel Udealor (a.k.a. “Alhaji”) 44; Obeta Friday, 21; Ekwe Ikechukwu, 35; Ugwu Osmond Osita, 49; Nzekwe Chukwuebuka Fidelis, 25; Kingsley Aniche, 35 and Ikowa Isaiah, 29.

He said: “The first two suspects, who identified and led the operatives to arrest the other suspects, confessed to having carried out several criminal acts of kidnapping, armed robbery and murder within the Adani community and other parts of Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area.”

He warned officers and men of Enugu State Command to shun acts of corruption, unprofessionalism and moral debasements to avoid severe disciplinary consequences.
