UPDATED: Kano Police Apprehend Man Who Set Kano Mosque Ablaze, Reveal Number Of Casualties

The Police in Kano State has verified the distressing occurrence of a fire incident at a mosque situated in the Laraba Abasawa area of Gezawa Local Government Area in Kano.

This incident, which unfolded in the early hours of Wednesday, May 15, 2024, has been traced to a single individual, now in police custody.

During the incident, one worshipper tragically lost his life, as confirmed by AIG Umar Mamman Sanda.

Sanda shared this information during his visit to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, where those affected by the mosque fire are currently receiving medical attention.

Among the delegation accompanying Sanda were the Commissioner of Police in the State and the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Clarifying the motive behind the incident, Sanda stated, “This was not an act of terrorism but rather a dispute arising from inheritance distribution.

“The suspect, dissatisfied with the distribution, resorted to drastic measures. He is now cooperating with authorities, providing valuable information.

“Regrettably, out of the 24 individuals admitted, one has lost his life as a result of serious injuries because the use of a locally made explosive device in this crime is truly lamentable”, AIG said.

Sanda urged for calm, assuring that security agencies have swiftly addressed the situation.

He emphasized the state government’s commitment to providing necessary medical support to the patients undergoing treatment.
