Borno state government has declared a twenty four hour curfew across the state with immediate effect.
The decision was taken to restore law and order following an improvised explosive device IED attack in Konduga and the current protest which has turned violent in parts of the metropolis.
In a statement by the State Police Public Relations Officer ASP Kenneth Daso says Governor Babagana Zulum took the decision in consultation with heads of security agencies in the state.
“Inline with our constitutional mandate towards the restoration of law and order his Excellency the executive Governor of Borno State Prof. Babagana Umar Zulum in consultation with heads of security in the state, finds it’s expedient to declare 24hrs curfew in the state with immediate effect” Daso said.
According to the statement, the IED attack claim 16 lives while several others are critically injured and currently receiving treatment in health facilities.
“You are all aware of the incident that took place at kawori which was the detonation of improvise explosive devices ordinance device which lead to the death of (16) persons while several others were critically injured and on admission across various Government hospitals in the state”
It calls on people of the State to remain calm and law abiding throughout the period of the curfew.
