Islamic High School Old Students Association has appealed to the police authorities in Oyo State not to allow those who have no direct link with the Ibadan stampede to spend too long in detention.
The association made the appeal via a statement signed by its National President, Dr. Bayo Busari.
No fewer than 40 children were confirmed dead as a result of a stampede that occurred in the school.
Eight people have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Busari in his reaction, commended the police and the Oyo state government for taking the bold steps.
He urged the police to carry out a diligent, thorough, and professional investigation.
“This investigation is not just to establish the culpability of individuals or organisations involved with the organisation of the event, but to proffer preventive measures against a future occurrence.
“Police should ensure that those who had no direct bearing with the event but have been invited for questioning do not stay longer in detention than it is necessary,” he said.
