Chadian ambassador sacked from Germany in retaliation as diplomatic faceoffs mount
Germany has responded to the recent diplomatic faceoff with the Chadian government by expelling the ambassador of the Central African country from Berlin.
The move is a retaliatory step by the German authorities after its ambassador to Chad was ordered out of the country.
Recall the Chadian government gave German Ambassador, Gordon Kricke, 48 hours to leave on Friday, citing his “discourteous attitude” and alleged disregard for protocol.
No additional information regarding the cause of his removal was provided in a brief statement from the Chadian government.
The expelled German ambassador arrived in his home country on Sunday after he was seen off at the airport by several colleagues from allied countries.
Speaking on the reason behind its action, the German authorities said the retaliation is against “the unfounded expulsion of our ambassador.”
Chad’s ambassador in Berlin, Mariam Ali Moussa, was summoned to the Foreign Ministry and given 48 hours to leave Germany with immediate effect.
Berlin still has some low-profile diplomats working in Chad despite the current diplomatic faceoffs.
Local media reports have pointed to criticism of Chad’s transitional government as a likely motivation for the German ambassador’s expulsion.
