Fintiri leads Binani in Adamawa supplementary polls as collation resumes Sunday
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri is leading Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani of the All Progressives Congress in the results of the Adamawa Governorship supplementary Elections, which resumed late Saturday night with results from 10 councils collated.
The collation exercise began at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday night when the local government returning officers delivered the results from Demsa and Yola South Local Government Areas to the state collation center.
Governor Fintiri extended his lead of 31,249 votes with wins in Demsa, Lamurde, Jada, Ganye, Song, Maiha, Hong, and Shelleng, while Sen. Binani won only in Yola North and Yola South out of ten council areas in the Adamawa Supplementary Governorship elections.
As of the time of the report, Fintiri has received 3, 881 votes out of the 37,016 votes cast in the supplementary elections, while Sen. Binani has received 2,527.
Collation of Governorship poll will resume later on Sunday at 11 a.m.
Recall that the March 18 governorship election in the state was declared inconclusive by the electoral umpire after voting was cancelled in 69 polling units due to reported incidents of violence and overvoting.
Mr Fintiri, who is the incumbent governor of Adamawa, led the first round of voting last month with 421,524 votes, while Binani received 390,275 votes.
The governorship election in the state is one of the keenly contested in Nigeria as Aishatu Dahiru, popularly known as Binani, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), faces a huge task in her bid to become Nigeria’s first woman governor.
To win the rerun, all eligible voters must vote, and she must receive approximately 90% of the votes cast.
