WAEC announces date for 2023 examination
The West African Examinations Council WAEC has announced that the 2023 school-based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) will start on 8 May and end on 23 June, 2023.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) announced this at a pre-examination press briefing Thursday in Lagos.
While speaking at the briefing, the Head of National Office, Patrick Areghan, noted that a total of 1,621,853 candidates across 20,851 government and private schools registered for the examination.
The body is hoping to perform better than the recently held West African Senior School Certificate Examination for private candidates.
The examination council released the result in the first week of April. Out of the 8,348 candidates that sat for the exam, WAEC withheld the result of 413 candidates due to varied cases of examination malpractice.
Speaking on the general performance in the recently concluded exam, Patrick Areghan revealed that an analysis of the statistics of the performance of candidates shows that out of the 8,348 candidates that sat the examination, 2,960, candidates representing 35.46% obtained credit and above in a minimum of five subjects (with or without English language and/or mathematics); 2,003 candidates representing 23.99% obtained credit and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English language and mathematics.
