Dino Melaye calls on Gov. Yahaya Bello, SDP candidate not to heat up polity in Kogi State

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State, Senator Dino Melaye, has called for calm as he strongly denounced the unfortunate incident between Kogi State governor and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Lokoja, Melaye stated that the peace of Kogi and the safety of her people should not be forced into a political game, irrespective of the interest and persons involved.

i-News reported on Saturday that armed thugs suspected of supporting the Social Democratic Party’s gubernatorial candidate, Alhaji Muritala Yakubu, allegedly ambushed the governor’s motorcade in Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.

The attack, which was announced and confirmed by the Kogi State Government, took place near a Naval Base, some kilometers away from Lokoja, the state capital.

No one was killed in the incident. However, the incident left several people including security aides injured.

Reacting to the incident, Senator Dino Melaye said, “I am still being briefed about the details of the attack. I am aware that both the Governor and the SDP candidate’s team are trading blame over the attack. If the reports are anything to go by; I, Senator Dino Melaye, the Kogi State Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) condemn in the strongest sense of it, such incidence.

“I call on both Governor Yahaya Bello and the SDP candidate not to heat up Kogi State with any chaos or crisis. The peace of Kogi State is paramount at all times.

“I call on the Federal Government of Nigeria as led by Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu to use the Office of President of Nigeria that he currently occupies (pending the outcome of the Presidential Election Petition Court) to immediately commence investigation into the GYB/SDP clash and ensure those involved are brought to book regardless of how highly placed they may be,” he said.
