Some people nursed interim government idea in Nigeria — Soyinka explains
Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka stated on Friday that certain people were plotting to have an interim government in place until the 2023 federal elections.
Mr. Soyinka said this at an interactive event in Lagos to launch his book “The Putin Files: Excursions Around The Ideology Of Pain.” He stated that individuals who supported the interim government were being deceived into believing such can happen in Nigeria.
Mr. Soyinka, the 88-year-old author, said, “Some people had schemed to tilt the country towards having an interim government. That tendency had been apparent even before the election.”
The iconic writer’s latest political views came months after he called the ‘Obidients,’ followers of Peter Obi, “fascists’ ‘ due to their aggressive behaviour on social media.
Soyinka again said he is expecting their internet insults and comments, which he described as their “dictionary of abuses.”
He, however, expressed his readiness to confront them if the need arises.
“They can go back to the internet, open their dictionary of abuses and start all over again; I will come back and tell them that you are ‘mumu’ (foolish). You were not playing your script,” he said.
“If you are knowledgeable and read books, you should be able to put two and two together to ask questions even before this election starts. Is this what and what was going on then, and then you discuss and form your conclusions?’
The book, titled “The Putin Files: Excursions Around The Ideology Of Pain,” is the latest in two years.
The launch, which took place at Freedom Park on Lagos Island and was broadcast live on Zoom, included book readings by Mr. Soyinka, as well as audience members.
