Senate demands quick intervention in Ogun East to prevent flooding

The Senate has written to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and other federal agencies requesting that they intervene immediately to avoid flooding in Sagamu and other communities of the Ogun East Senatorial District.

The letter further requested that victims be given palliatives as soon as possible.

This follows the adoption of the motion moved by Senator Gbenga Daniel, on the flooding issues in Sagamu, Ijebu and other areas in the country.

This came under a motion on the “urgent need to intervene in the flooding issues in Sagamu, Ijebu Areas of Ogun East Senatorial District.”

Senator Daniel had brought the attention of lawmakers to the serious challenge in his constituency and across the country.

After deliberation, the Senate resolved to call on appropriate Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to disburse cash for dredging of blocked canals and water bodies, among other interventions, as provided in the 2023 Appropriation Act.

The Senate also directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to supply relief goods to affected victims in the Ogun East Senatorial District’s Sagamu and Ijebu areas.

As a result, the Clerk of the National Assembly has written to the appropriate government agencies in order to facilitate the Senate resolution.
