Zulum distributes food palliatives to 23,000 households in Borno
The Borno state government has distributed food palliatives to about 23,000 households in Baga town of Kukawa Local Government Area of the state.
Governor Babagana Zulum who personally supervised the exercise said, “The palliatives were in line with one of President Bola Tinubu’s agenda who recently declared a state of emergency on food security occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy.”
According to him, more than twenty thousand returnees and other less privileged who could not farm in their communities have been provided with food and non-food items.
Aside from food distribution, the state government is also working on providing livelihoods to returning communities through the revival of commercial activities and farming.
Each of the 23,000 households from Baga, Doron Baga, and Cross Kauwa received bags of rice, spaghetti, and maize grain with women getting a wrapper each.
The governor was accompanied on the humanitarian visit by the Chairman Taskforce on Palliatives Honourable Bukar Talba Director General State Emergency Management Agency Dr. Barkindo Muhammad.
The United Nations has projected that more than five hundred thousand people would face emergency levels of food insecurity and about seven thousand children are likely to suffer acute malnutrition in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states.
