House of Reps mulls Cancellation of Waivers in Civil Service
The Chairman House of Representatives Ad-hoc Commitee investigating employment racketeering Mr Yusuf Gagdi has identified waiver given to ministries, department and agencies of government as a major obstacle against open recruitment in the country.
The Chairman who stated this during a resumed investigative hearing of the committee described the practice as a scam.
According to him, the committee will not hesitate to recommend complete abolition of recruitment waivers to MDAs of government at the end of its investigation.
“Many qualified Nigerians have been deprived of employment opportunities because of waivers issued to some agencies as a cover up to reward friends and allies.
“Waivers granted to government agencies have created many problems in the public service and encouraged job racketeering in the country.
Gagdi added that when waivers are given, public officers in charge of the establishments usually share available slots among themselves without the knowledge of young qualified Nigerians who should have been given the opportunity to apply so as to benefit from such opportunities.
