Stakeholders Launch Interfaith Document
A Joint Interfaith Code of Conduct document for peacebuilding in Nigeria has been launched in Abuja.
Stakeholders at the event stressed the need to promote interfaith engagement to foster unity and Peaceful coexistence among the people of different faiths in the country.
This 20-page document captured relevant quotations from the two holy books of the Quran and the Bible that explain how adherents of different faiths must live together peacefully.
While presenting the document alongside other stakeholders, The Director General of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution IPCR David Okoji said it was time for the code of conduct to have legal backing to provide sanctions for those using religion to create acrimony among the people.
The President Christian Association of Nigeria CAN Most Reverend Daniel Okoh represented by Reverend Benebo Fubara said the code of conduct would serve as a guide for Nigerians to respect one another’s faith.
An Islamic Scholar Imam Fuad Adeyemi said Nigerians must learn to leave together in accordance with the teachings of the two holy scriptures.
There were goodwill messages from stakeholders including the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue, the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and the Interfaith Midiation Centre at event.
