Oyo Muslim Community Condemns Fetish Practices, Constitutes Committee to Discipline Erring Clerics
The Muslim Community of Oyo State in conjunction with the League ofthe Imams and Alfas led by Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Alhaji Abubakar Agbotomokekere will set up an all inclusive disciplinary committee to deal with clerics engaging in fetish and other unislamic practices.
The Chairman, Muslim Community of Oyo State, Alhaji Kunle Sanni made this known during a news conference at Bodija Islamic Centre, Ibadan in reaction to the case of two so-called Islamic clerics and a christian arrested with human parts around Agbarigo, Ibadan.
Alhaji Sanni, who emphasized that diabolical cruelty, using human parts for occultism and syncretism were against the fundamental principles of Islam, urged Muslims to uphold the monotheistic injunction of the religion which frowns at bloodletting.
He stressed that ritual killings in quest for money as well as idols found within the premises of the two suspects were confirmation that they worship other creatures apart from Allah.
Alhaji Sanni, while calling on Muslims not to take laws into their hands, promised the Community’s support for efforts to ensure justice and report for any cleric found wanting.
In a remark, Secretary General, Muslim Community of Oyo State, Alhaji Murisiku Siyanbade advised people, especially women to always inform family and relatives of their whereabouts and be security conscious.
The Chief Missioner, Muslim Community of Oyo State, Dr Daud Amoo-Alaga explained that there was the need for people to study and understand Islam so as to differentiate claims from reality.
