Ogun Police Clamp Down: Ban Imposed On Fireworks And Explosives For Yuletide

The Ogun State Police command has issued a prohibition on the use of fireworks and explosives during the Yuletide celebrations, citing concerns about residents’ difficulties distinguishing between gunshots and genuine fireworks.

SP Omolola Odutola, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), conveyed this directive in a statement released in Abeokuta on Tuesday.

The PPRO highlighted the influx of complaints from residents, especially in Sagamu, Ijebu-Ode, Ikenne, and Sango Ota, regarding the indiscriminate use of dangerous fireworks, commonly known as “banga.

The loud and unsettling noise generated by these explosives was reported to be disrupting the peace of mind and causing anxiety among residents, particularly amid prevailing security concerns.

In response, Commissioner of Police Abiodun Alamutu has officially imposed a ban on the unrestrained use of explosive fireworks in Ogun State.

The decision stems from the community’s struggle to differentiate between actual gunshots and the sounds produced by fireworks.

Odutola emphasized that the Commissioner has sternly warned young individuals against violating this directive, stating that offenders will face punishment in accordance with existing laws.
