Tinubu Unveils Strategies To Eradicate Food Insecurity In Nigeria
The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, has disclosed that President Bola Tinubu has unveiled initiatives aimed at enhancing food and nutrition security in the country. Speaking in Abuja during the 2023 edition of the Nigeria Nutrition Week’s Media Sensitization on Food and Nutrition Security, Bagudu, represented by Dr. Sanjo Faniran, the Director of Social Development, outlined the Tinubu-led administration’s commitment to implementing a comprehensive strategy.
The approach, as explained by Bagudu, will encompass sustainable agricultural practices, the adoption of climate-smart technologies, and the implementation of social protection programs. Emphasizing the urgency of adaptation and mitigation strategies, he stated, “This is in recognition of the urgent need for adaptation and mitigation strategies that will safeguard our food systems and enhance the nutritional well-being of our people.”
As part of the commitment made during the recently concluded COP28 in Dubai, the Nigerian government, under Tinubu’s leadership, prioritizes the development and adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices. This includes the promotion of resilient crop varieties, efficient irrigation systems, agroforestry, and sustainable land management techniques.
The overarching goal is to bolster the resilience of agricultural systems and ensure a consistent supply of nutritious food to a larger segment of the population. Bagudu’s remarks underscore the administration’s dedication to addressing the challenges of food insecurity through a holistic and sustainable approach.
