FG Announces Deadline For Full Digitalization Of Civil Service To Combat Corruption Nationwide
In a bid to modernize and streamline its operations, the Federal Government of Nigeria is set to fully digitize all processes in Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) by 2025. Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, made this announcement at a one-day Retreat on digitalization for the Head of Service and Permanent Secretaries.
Dr. Yemi-Esan emphasized that the move toward full digitalization is a key component of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP) for 2021-2025. The plan aims to leverage digital technologies to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance service delivery. The Head of Service urged MDAs to embrace technology and align their processes with the FCSSIP25 pillars to achieve the national goals outlined in the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Expressing dissatisfaction with Nigeria’s lag in digitalization, Dr. Yemi-Esan highlighted the global trend where 90% of governments have embraced digital technologies and deployed Artificial Intelligence solutions. She stressed the benefits of going digital, including a reduction in the cost of governance, waste reduction, and improved data management.
As part of the preparations, MDAs have been given the opportunity to allocate budgets for digitalization in the 2024 budget. Dr. Yemi-Esan urged MDAs to ensure uniformity and interoperability of data to achieve common set goals. The move toward digitalization is expected to transform the civil service, enhance information management, and contribute to the overall efficiency of government operations.
