Obasanjo Pays Visit To Iwuanyanwu, Engages In Talks With Ohanaeze Leadership

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo paid a visit to the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, in Owerri, Imo State, engaging in discussions on matters of mutual interest with other leaders of Ohanaeze.

During a press briefing on the visit, Ohanaeze’s Secretary General, Okey Emuchay, emphasized the symbolic and vital nature of the meeting, highlighting the positive and productive deliberations that took place.

Emuchay revealed “Issues of mutual interest were discussed, and the President General informed Chief Obasanjo that Nigeria should commemorate his sacrifices with monuments bearing his name.” He further recalled

Obasanjo’s significant contributions, such as his role in ending the civil war with the iconic slogan of “no victor, no vanquished,” addressing massive external debts, and steering the nation’s economic recovery during his presidency.

 

The Secretary General conveyed the President General’s assurance that the Igbo nation intends to honor Obasanjo appropriately, acknowledging his inclusive approach during his tenure. Emuchay pointed out, “Remember that when Chief Obasanjo was President, he appointed several Igbo sons and daughters into his cabinet and other high-profile positions, providing a sense of belonging to the Igbo nation during that time.
