Killers’ Detailed Planning Of Kwara Oba’s Assassination In Beer Parlour Exposed
Fresh details have emerged regarding the tragic killing of Oba Olusegun Aremu-Cole, the Olukoro of Koro in Kwara State. Reports indicate that the perpetrators meticulously planned the murder in a local pub before executing the attack on the monarch’s palace.
The retired senior military officer, Oba Aremu-Cole, aged 66, was fatally shot on Thursday night by assailants who not only targeted him but also abducted his wife and two locals residing near the palace.
According to an anonymous source from Koro, the assailants arrived in the town on Thursday evening and spent several hours in a pub. They posed as friendly patrons, building rapport with the salesgirl at the establishment. Subsequently, they convinced her to guide them to the palace under the guise of paying respects to the monarch and discussing the town’s progress.
The source revealed, “The girl ignorantly led the three men to the palace to see the monarch and went back to continue her work at the joint.”
Funsho Akorede, another resident of Koro, disclosed that the monarch, who had recently returned from a journey, was relaxing when the gunmen attacked him. In response to the incident, a team of soldiers has been deployed to search the forests in Kwara, Kogi, and Ekiti states in a bid to apprehend the assailants.
Adelaja Aremu, the immediate younger brother of the deceased monarch, provided further insights into the tragic event. He explained that the gunmen demanded the Oba to stand up and accompany them, but the monarch defiantly refused. The assailants then resorted to shooting him. Adelaja stated, “They knew that they met a stubborn person, and that was how they shot him.”
Regarding the abduction of the monarch’s wife and two others, Adelaja expressed hope that the police would diligently investigate the matter. He highlighted that bandit attacks were not uncommon in the town, with previous encounters reported to the authorities yielding little action. Adelaja emphasized the challenges faced by the community, citing incidents of farm raids, cattle rustling, and a lack of adequate security measures.
As investigations unfold, the community remains on edge, grappling with the aftermath of this tragic event and the broader security concerns plaguing the region.
