Police Apprehend Thugs Planning To Disrupt Kano Rerun Election
The Kano Police Command has reported the apprehension of numerous individuals believed to be hired thugs aiming to disrupt the ongoing rerun election process in certain areas of the state. The Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, revealed this information during a briefing with journalists, disclosing that the arrested individuals, armed and in possession of weapons, claimed to have been engaged by a politician participating in the election.
The arrests took place in the Kunchi/Tsanyawa area, a constituency in Kano State where the rerun election is currently underway. CP Gumel recounted the discovery, stating, “We encountered a broken-down truck on the roadside, surrounded by a large group of people. Initially, they claimed the vehicle had run out of fuel. However, upon closer inspection, we found them carrying arms.”
The Commissioner identified one Abdulrazaq Muhammad, also known as Mai Salati, from Kano Municipal, who informed the police that they were invited by a candidate named Gwarmai in the contested area. CP Gumel expressed the intention to verify the candidacy of Gwarmai and determine the reasons for their invitation to the region.
He voiced suspicions that the arrested individuals might have intended to lay ambushes in the bush to target electoral officers transporting election results. The Commissioner emphasized the need to investigate further and uncover the motives behind these alleged attempts to interfere with the electoral process.
