The Niger State Police Command has apprehended three individuals involved in a series of burglaries, including the theft of seven wall fans from a mosque in Minna. The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, revealed in a statement on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, that the suspects have gained notoriety in the region for breaking into residences and religious establishments to pilfer valuable items.

Continuing their commitment to curbing crime, the police patrol team of the Anti-kidnapping unit made the arrests on January 23, 2024, around 10:00 PM, during a routine patrol along the Dutsen-Kura/Shanu village area of Minna. The apprehended individuals are identified as Mohammed Auwal Abdulsamiu (24 years old), Abdulraheem Abdulsamiu (16 years old), and Abdullahi Usman (17 years old), all hailing from Dutsen-Kura Gwari area in Minna.

The suspects were observed on the road late at night, carrying two suspicious sacks. The patrol team swiftly intercepted and detained them on the spot. A subsequent search of the suspects revealed seven wall fans concealed within the sacks, evidently stolen and intended for transportation to a concealed location.

Upon interrogation, the suspects admitted to their involvement in the burglary at a Juma’at Mosque in Dutsen-Kura/Kwasau area on January 22, 2024, around 11:00 PM. They confessed to planning the sale of the stolen items at Kasuwa-Gwari. Further investigation established the suspects’ reputation as notorious housebreaking and burglary offenders, known for targeting both homes and religious institutions to pilfer valuable possessions.

The suspects now face legal proceedings, having been charged to court for prosecution. The Niger State Police Command remains dedicated to reducing crime and ensuring the safety and security of the state’s residents.
