Police Arrest 25 Suspects Over Minna Protest Against Hunger, Cost Of Living
The Niger State Police Command has arrested 25 persons for allegedly participating in Monday’s street protest against hunger and high cost of living in Minna, the State capital.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed that one Aisha Jibrin was the initiator of the protest, and that she had been arrested with 24 other suspects.
INTEGRITY NEWS reports that some women and youths in their numbers had on Monday took to the street and blocked the Kpagungu axis of Minna-Bida Road in the Niger State capital city, protesting against hunger and high cost of living.
The women, carrying a placard with the inscription “No food, we are dying of hunger”, demanded a better condition of living and reduction in cost of living for the citizenry.
They accused political office-holders of insensitivity to their plight as they lamented inability to feed even once in a day.
The protest had caused traffic gridlock on the ever-busy Minna-Bida Road, which is a link road to the South-West part of the country from the North-Central.
