Prostitution, Alcohol Crackdown Continue As Kano Hisbah Seizes 8,600 Bottles Of Beer, Detains 15 Women
Kano State Hisbah Board intercepted a van transporting 8,600 bottles of beer, as revealed by Idris Ibrahim, the officer in charge of intoxicants, in a statement to reporters on Saturday, February 10, 2024. The van, originating from Kaduna, was seized at Kwanar Dangora village along the Kano-Kaduna Expressway last Thursday. Ibrahim explained that the board’s operatives had been tracking the vehicle from Kaduna until it entered Kano territory.
“We stopped the vehicle at Kwanar Dangora village, and the driver attempted to escape, but our operatives apprehended him,” Ibrahim reported. “Selling and drinking beer is illegal in Kano State, so we plan to take the driver to court after obtaining his statement.” He added that the Hisbah team overseeing intoxicants is awaiting further instructions from the Hisbah management.
In a separate operation, the board also arrested 15 young women over allegations of engaging in prostitution at various locations, including Hotoro Tishama, Bakin River Verd Sabon Gari, Miyangu Road, Hadejia Road, and Old Zoo Road motor parks. Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen, the board’s Deputy Commander-General, confirmed the arrests, noting that some of the suspected prostitutes had faced legal action before but persisted in the illicit trade.
“It is unfortunate that some of these women leave their states and countries to come to Kano, where they engage in prostitution and other objectionable behavior,” Aminuddeen remarked. “We urge the public to continue reporting such activities to help sanitize the state. However, it’s essential to recognize that some of these girls are in this situation due to hardship, and they also need prayers.”
Aminuddeen highlighted the girls’ involvement in drug abuse, which has altered their appearance and impacted their mental well-being. “Parents must pray for their children to be protected from the perils of drug abuse, which often lead to other social vices,” he concluded.
