Shell Announces Gas Pipeline Construction Project In Oyo
Shell Nigeria Gas (SNG) and the government of Oyo State have inked a pact to construct a gas supply and distribution infrastructure aimed at servicing industrial and commercial entities within the state. This endeavor, which signifies a significant step towards bolstering the energy sector, is set to be managed by SNG for a span of 20 years, according to a statement released by Abimbola Essien-Nelson, Shell Nigeria’s Media Relations Manager, on Friday.
The initial phase of the project will focus on laying down gas distribution infrastructure spanning a 15-kilometer pipeline route. Once completed, the project anticipates supplying a substantial volume of 60 million standard cubic feet of gas per day across Oyo State, thereby revolutionizing the region’s energy landscape.
During the signing ceremony, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde lauded the initiative, branding it as a key driver of development within the state. Ralph Gbobo, the Managing Director of SNG, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the pivotal role of the agreement in stimulating economic activities by offering industries and manufacturers access to natural gas, a more dependable, cost-effective, and eco-friendly energy alternative.
Moreover, Gbobo underscored the potential of the project to bolster Oyo State’s internal revenue and foster employment opportunities for its populace. Osagie Okunbor, the Managing Director of The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited and Chairman of Shell Companies in Nigeria, emphasized the importance of collaboration in propelling Nigeria forward through cleaner energy solutions tailored for commercial and industrial consumers.
