Suspected armed herdsmen numbering over 15 have attacked Aliko community and killed nine persons, including a pregnant woman.

The attack occurred on Sunday around 4pm in Usha Council Ward, Agatu Local Government area of Benue state.

The chairman of Agatu Local Government area, Hon.Yakubu Ochepo, who confirmed the attack.

He told The Nation on phone that over 500 persons were displaced and many others wounded.“Seven corpses have been  recovered ,including a pregnant woman and others victims,” he said.

Ochepo called on the State and Federal Governments to provide security to the People of Agatu so that they can go back to their farming activities.

Agatu,a town located in Benue South Senatorial District ,has been under sustained herdsmen  attacks since January 2024.

Benue State Command Police said it was yet to get the report on the incident when contacted.
