Organized Labour Meets President Tinubu to Conclude on Minimum Wage
President Bola Tinubu is meeting with the leadership of the organised labour today Thursday July 18, 2024 to finalise the lingering matters around the National Minimum Wage.
He met with them last week after the tripartite committee he set up to negotiate with the Labour failed to convince them to accept the offer made by the government.
While the government is proposing ₦62,000 as the National Minimum Wage, the labour is stuck on ₦250,000.
President Tinubu has repeatedly said the organised labour’s proposal was not realistic, giving the country’s current economic situation, but citing the unpredictable waves of inflation being experienced, the organised labour has also consistently argued that the ₦62,000 proposed by the government was inadequate.
After last week’s inconclusive meeting, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said today’s meeting would produce the final stance agreed upon.
He explained that the draft therefrom would be sent to the National Assembly for legislation.
