Muslim Leaders Advocate Enforcement of ICJ Rulling on Israel
An Islamic organisation advocating the reclamation of Al-Quds Mosque and objective of ensuring peace, freedom and liberty for the people of Palestine, Aqsah Nigeria has tasked world leaders, especially governments in Africa to step up actions towards enforcement of the July 19th 2024 ruling of the International Court of Justice, ICJ, which declared Israel’s war on Palestinian territories as unlawful.
The organisation also called for mass mobilisation of people and continuous public awareness to uphold the landmark judgement with a view to ending the ongoing killings of women, children and displacement of Palestinians by the Israeli forces.
The Director, Aqsah Nigeria, Barrister Rasheed Atta made the call at a World Press Conference organised in collaboration with the International Institute for Human Heritage and other Muslim Organisations in Ibadan.
Barrister Atta emphasized that annexation of Palestine’s territories and discriminatory policies against the people were violations of International law, which should be stopped.
He stated that the judgement by the President of the International Court of Justice, ICJ, Justice Nawaf Salaam was a clarion call for all global leaders and superpowers to rise against humiliation and oppression of the Palestinians.
According to him, “the world must know the ICJ and its meaning. People who have struggled with the Palestinian people and those just join have a duty to mobilise within their powers and ensure the pronouncement is not another empty judgement”.
The Director Aqsah Nigeria challenged the United Nations not to turn blind eyes to the ruling, but ensure justice for the oppressed.
“Injustice to one is an injustice to all; justice for humanity is sacrosanct irrespective of race, colour, religion or ideology, he said”.
In his contributions, the chairman, Muslim Community of Oyo State, Alhaji Kunle Sanni who stressed the importance of understanding the world politics on Israeli onslaught in Gaza strip and other Palestinian territories, pointed out that the war is not between Muslims and Christians, as Zionist is destroying Churches and Mosques.
“We are in support of the Palestinians on humanitarian grounds; we are concerned about the right to live. It is a coincidence that majority of Palestinians are Muslims, Sanni noted”.
Alhaji Sanni urged the UN to stop a few countries from superintending the whole world, commending the 35 countries which cut ties with Israel for war crimes in Palestine.
In another contribution, the former Minister of Communications who is also the Chairman and Pro-chancellor, David Umahi, Federal University of Health Sciences, Uburu, Ebonyi State, Alhaji Adebayo Shittu said Palestine deserves to be a sovereign state, calling on governments to emulate South Africa in the support for Palestinian emancipation.
Alhaji Shittu emphasized that the two-state solution by the international community should not circumvented or abrogated by Israeli occupation.
The former Minister of Communications also solicited prayers and succour for the Palestinians.
He called on the United States to apply the same interventionist role in the Israeli occupation of Palestine as the Russian annexation of Ukraine attracted sympathy and support.
The Chairman, Muslim Community of Ibarapa, Sheikh Bilal Shittu did a rap up presentation of the Palestinian questions with a call on Arab nations and the others to rally round Palestine to end sufferings of the people.
