Release Islamic High School Principal, Mr Fasasi- Muric Tells Governor Makinde
The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), is compelled again to address the recent tragedy at the Islamic High School in Ibadan, where a stampede resulted in the loss of about 35 lives and many other injuries. Our concern is the apparent attempt to scapegoat the school’s principal, Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi.
In a statement by Muric Chairman, Oyo State Chapter, Barrister Abdul Waheed Lawal, the organization expressed belief that Mr. Fasasi should not be used as a sacrificial lamb to cover up the potential culpability of the Oyo State Ministry of Education.
It pointed out that available reports indicate that the principal acted on instructions from higher authorities and took necessary precautions to ensure safety.
“It is on record that Mr. Fasasi was ordered to allow Agidigbo FM to use the school venue from November 2024 to October 2025. The children’s funfair program, which led to the tragic incident, was part of Agidigbo’s events. Notably, Queen Naomi and Agidigbo FM have been linked as collaborators”
Barrister Lawal questioned the rationale behind detaining Mr. Fasasi while the owner of Agidigbo FM, Alhaji Oriyomi Hazmat, remains free, describing it as selective justice which raises concerns about the fairness and impartiality of the investigation.
“Now that the Federal Government has directed the Inspector General of Police to take over the investigation, we hope that there will be no sacred cows. A thorough and unbiased investigation is expected, and we demand that all individuals and organizations involved be held accountable”
According to the statement, MURIC demands justice for the victims and their families and call on the Muslim community and all people of conscience to stand up against any attempt to victimize innocent people or cover up the truth.
“Justice must be served, and the truth must be revealed. We will continue to monitor the situation and advocate for fairness and justice”
