Sangotedo Community In Distress As Homes, Estates Face Demolition

Residents of Sangotedo town in Eti-Osa East Local Council Development Area of Lagos State are urgently seeking government intervention following the reported demolition of their properties by officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA).

The Olufunmi Eshilokun Royal Family of Sangotedo raised the alarm, alleging that Percio Property Company, in collaboration with LASBCA officials, carried out the demolition.

HRH Oba Mohammad Akorede, the Olu of Sangotedo Kingdom, addressed the media in Lagos, emphasizing the need for immediate state government intervention to prevent total economic ruin and destruction of properties constructed with hard-earned money.

In a statement by Prince Halidu Olufunmi, Head and Olori-Ebi of the Olufunmi Eshilokun Royal Family, Oba Akorede highlighted the family’s historical ownership of the land at Sangotedo Town, tracing it back to their progenitor Prince Olufunmi. He referenced a court judgment (suit No. Ld/328/76 Alhaja Barakat Olufunmi & Ors. V Yakubu Olufunmi & Anor) confirming their ownership.

The statement also detailed a legal dispute initiated by Percio Property Company in 2021, claiming ownership of a large parcel of land. The family contested the claim, asserting their rights and presenting evidence of government excision and survey plans.

According to Oba Akorede, LASBCA officials invaded their land, demolishing buildings without proper permits or approvals and without serving contravention notices. The destruction was ongoing as of March 10, 2024, and the family expressed concern over the government agency’s involvement in such actions.

The family members and property owners forcibly displaced from their homes were allegedly denied access to their belongings and faced threats when attempting to intervene.
