Another five-storey building under construction at Ladipo Oluwole Street, Apapa, Lagos, has collapsed.

According to a report, the building collapsed on Sunday barely some weeks after a similar incident occurred in Banana Island. The number of casualties has not been ascertained as of the time of this report.

Police officers, members of the state fire service, and other emergency responders have been dispatched to the scene of the incident to assist with rescue efforts.

The premises where the incident happened have also been sealed by the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), according to Mukaila Sanusi, Deputy Director of Public Affairs.

The developer, according to the spokesperson, ignored the agency’s “Stop work and Seal up orders” and continued construction.

“The developer carried on construction without recourse to the authorities. There has been no report of any casualty, while the site has been cordoned off and taken over by LASBCA,” he noted.

He noted that the latest collapse, like similar others, reinforces government’s calls for responsible behaviour on the part of all stakeholders.
